What To Wear

As you plan your safari to explore Rwanda the land of a thousand hills, it is important to know what to wear on a safari in Akagera National Park , Nyungwe or Volcanoes national park. Having the wrong clothing might lead to your safari becoming the worst adventure of your lifetime. Therefore , below we provide you with the packing list for Rwanda Safari.

An important tip to note is: avoid bright colored clothes for the outdoor activities and reserve them for the evenings back at the lodge.

Below we have highlighted some of the recommended clothing to bring on your  Rwanda safari as well as some useful gadgets that will come handy during your holiday in Rwanda.

Long-sleeved tops or comfortable Safari Shirts

In these you will be protected against biting insects especially when on nature walks in the park, (even when gorilla tracking). They will also protect you from the thorny tree branches, piercing vines, as well as nettles.

We mainly recommend that you pack jeans especially for hiking, nature walks or trekking considering that they don’t easily show dirt, and also their thick layer will protect your legs against pricking vegetation.

Safari Shorts

We advise that you wear these while back at your lodge or during the day-time when the sun is up and shining. These however should not be worn when tracking gorillas, hiking the volcanoes or taking nature walks considering that your legs will be exposed. However, remember to apply some insect repellent when wearing shorts.

Safari Socks

We recommend that you wear either wool or cotton socks as these will offer great protection for your feet.

Comfortable Under wear

Remember to pack comfortable underwear preferably cotton and these should always be washed clean so don’t forget to purchase some detergent.

Safari Hat

A safari hat is a must pack item for your safari in Rwanda. We recommend that you buy one with a wide brim. These are available in some of the craft shops within Rwanda so you can always buy one there.

A Safari Jacket

A jacket is an essential component on your packing list. This is so because Rwanda is generally very cold country especially in the early morning and evenings.

Majority of the lodges in Rwanda have nice swimming pools so don’t forget to carry one on your safari in Rwanda
